James William Fulbright (April 9, 1905 – February 9, 1995) was an American politician, academic, and statesman. He represented Arkansas in the United States Senate from 1945 until 1973, when he was appointed Secretary of State by president George Wallace, serving from 1973 to 1977. He was the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 1964 and 1968.
