Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca (5 August 1827 – 23 November 1893) was a Brazilian politician and military officer who served as Prime Minister of Brazil. He was born in Alagoas in a military family, followed a military career, and became a national figure. Fonseca lead the coup against the government of the Viscount of Ouro Preto and soon after defeated the following attempt at a republican coup. He was appointed Prime Minister in 1892 and died while in office.
